Welcome to the West Alabama Fiber Guild Newsletter

Happy Easter!

Next meeting:  Sunday, April, 16th, 1:00 to 3:00 pm (Easter Sunday)
Feel free to come as early as 11:00 am.
Location: Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation

1000 28th Avenue, Tuscaloosa

Topic:  Spinning Sunday
This week's meeting will be very casual and relaxed.  Generally on holidays we really have a good time even though attendance is generally a little lower.
Previous Meeting Notes:
10 members attended.
Heather K. brought her Ashford Elizabeth as part of our continued study into beginning spinning. It is an absolutely beautiful example of a Saxony style wheel. Most members use Castle style wheels due to the availability, smaller size, and that many come with travel options. The Saxony style wheel with it's larger wheel size and different type of tension options offered a very different and pleasant spinning experience according to Deanna A.

Our newest and youngest member Terra W. has been admiring Tatted lace recently. Christine C., noticing her interest, taught her the basic stitches and according to my latest reports she has now mastered rings, chains, and joins. It's always exciting when a skill is passed on!

Reminder:
If you are interested in participating in the Kentuck Festival, please bring $5.00 to the next meeting so we will be able to register you for a participating artist badge. The Kentuck money is due before the end of April.  If you are unable to make a guild meeting in April and would like to participate please e-mail Carol in order to make arrangements.

Message from Larisa
"Hello everybody! After several years of college, I am picking up my needlework again, which is exciting. I do plan to move eventually; however, it may take longer than I wish it would. In the meantime, I would like to experiment with tapestry weaving and other hand weaving techniques. I also have an idea of recycling any unwanted yarn and yarn scraps, so please if you would like to donate yarn and scraps of yarn that you absolutely don’t need, bring them to the Guild’s meetings. I packed all my yarn and most of my other supplies, and it is impossible to tell now where they are, so your donations will be more than appreciated. Just remember the idea is to recycle, so bring only what you 100% do not need anymore. I plan to make small items such as mug rugs, placemats, small tapestries, pillows, and such. If I manage to produce some amount of goods, they can be donated or sold with a portion of proceeds going back to the Guild. If you would like to participate even deeper in my recycling project, start collecting any bits of yarn, such as cut ends, which can be used to stuff pillows. I will also gladly accept any unwanted fabric scraps to make pillow cases. Let’s recycle and go zero yarn waste (if you have anything you may want to recycle of course)! Thank you."
Several of our members are driving to Huntsville to participate in their Knit in Public day.  For more information click here :)  Candice W. is attending and is admining our Facebook page.  She is posting more up to date information regularly on the page.

Our Program Schedule for 2017 was in the February 2nd newsletter.  Click here to see it.

Also, last year we discussed buying another EZ up tent with the 3 sides it comes with. We put the purchase on hold until we discovered our new location. Does the guild want me to order one now? I would like to do this ASAP if that is the wish of members.

Once I have the information on our drum carder from Henry, I will order the brush that attaches to it.
Thanks, Carol
