October 1, 2015

Welcome to the West Alabama Fiber Guild Newsletter

Happy October -- It will be a busy month!

Next meeting:  Sunday, October 4, 2015, 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Location: 1000 28th Avenue, Tuscaloosa
Topic:  Lucet Workshop and Kentuck Preparations
Lucet cord making, led by Lynn Higginbotham
Supplies needed:
  • Lucet (available locally at Hobby Lobby - don't forget your 40% off coupon).  If you don't have a lucet, a fork with the middle tines bent or removed can also be used (see pics here).
  • A firm, smooth yarn that will slide easily, anything from fingering to worsted weight, any color. Variegated is fine.  100% cotton is good.  Examples: dishcloth cotton, Peaches & Creme, #10 crochet cotton.
If you have any questions, please contact Lynn.

"I've done an example in no name acrylic yarn, worsted weight.
I've put an Emory board by it to see size comparison.
What you can do with a Lucet cord is limited only by your imagination."
-Lynn

Kentuck Festival of the Arts:  Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, 2015

We will be at booth I11, across from the West Alabama Quilters Guild.  Everyone should demonstrate some skill or assist those who are demonstrating. Carol has a list of who is participating and what they will demo.  If you have any questions about attending or demonstrating at Kentuck, please contact Carol.

Monica Moore will coordinate our sales table.  (Thanks, Monica!)
Please contact her at the October 4th meeting or beforehand if you wish to sell any items at Kentuck, as she needs to know what items you have and the quantity so she can plan how to display them.
Pricing:  Determine the amount you wish to charge for your item, then add 10% which will go to the guild.  This total is what you should put on the price tag.  Monica will add the appropriate tax at the time of sale.
Tags:  Use two tags (or a two-part tag) on each item.  On the first tag, please put your name and the price of the item.  On the second tag, put a description of the item, fiber content, etc.  You can also add your name and contact information if you wish your customers to have it.  Monica will keep the first tag for record keeping.
Receiving payment:  Monica has a credit card reader and will also accept checks from customers at Kentuck.  She will need to wait for the transactions to clear before she can remit the proceeds of the sales to guild members.  You will not receive income from your sales immediately at Kentuck.
Setup:  We will set up the guild tent at Kentuck that Friday afternoon.  Bring your items for sale during setup or first thing Saturday morning.
If you have any questions about sales at Kentuck, please contact Monica.
