Last meeting:  Sunday, July 3, 2016

Topic:  Silk Cocoons
We learned about silk cocoons and also worked on various projects during the meeting.
Silk cocoons can be dyed and spun right from the cocoon.  Carol used Jacquard Silk dyes.
To soften the cocoons for unreeling, place them in a pot and cover with distilled water.  Simmer them for about an hour.
Each cocoon will yield 2 strands and about 1 mile of useable fiber.
Silk cocoons can also be spread out to form hankies or caps, and then spun or used for other techniques.

Simmered cocoons, ready to be unreeled.
