Welcome to the West Alabama Fiber Guild Newsletter

Next meeting:  Sunday, November 20, 2016, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Location: 1000 28th Avenue, Tuscaloosa
Topic:  Spinning Sunday
Take a well-deserved break from your holiday preparations!  Bring any project that you would like to work on, or just come and chat.

Last meeting:  Sunday, November 6, 2016

Topic:  Kumihimo & Spinning Sunday
We had a lively discussion of how things went at Kentuck and Northport Heritage Days, worked on our own various projects, and made plans for a Holiday Party in December.

Some of the comments and suggestions regarding Kentuck:
-Our new location was good, despite the dust.
-It was nice to be able to use the restrooms in the building.
-The only drinks vendor did not take credit cards -- cash only.
-Two members reported that sales at the guild booth were not as good as last year. (We do not have a report yet regarding overall sales.)
-We could organize our display better as a group and put all of similar items together, such as hats, scarves, etc.
-We need to clarify the rules on sales at our guild booth.  Do items for sale need to be made from original patterns? Do items need a certain type of price tag or specific information on the tag?

Carol has obtained a business license for the guild through the City of Northport.  This allows us to sell items at Kentuck, Dickens Downtown, and other events in Northport.  Contact Carol if you need any further information about using the license at a specific event.

We also discussed Northport Heritage Days.  Tori said that the kids were attentive and well-behaved, but that they only had three minutes to demonstrate to each group.
Hand woven dishtowels and red huck lace scarf by Glynda M., both made of cotton.
Hand spun yarn by Jennifer C., of which two skeins were spun at Kentuck.
Tatted butterflies by Christine C.
Bead-style support spindle from Texas Jeans and cedar block spindle bowl from The Dancing Goats, both on Etsy and purchased by Carol T.

Upcoming meeting:  Sunday, December 4, 2016

Topic:  Holiday Party
Fiber crafting, holiday spirit, food, and fun!
Bring one of your favorite dishes to share with us for a holiday lunch, and bring your favorite project to work on.  We also think it would be fun to hold multiple door prize drawings during the meeting.  If you have a small gift item or excess stash that you would like to donate, please bring that for the drawings.

Deanna and I will bring plastic ware, paper plates, napkins, and cups.  Please bring the appropriate serving utensil for your dish.

If you have any questions about the holiday party, please contact me.

Guild Wheel Available:

Are you ready to try spinning but don't want to invest in your own wheel just yet?  The guild wheel is now available and looking for a new home.  It is an Ashford Traditional Spinning Wheel and comes with a Lazy Kate and bobbins.  Please contact Larisa if you are interested.  She plans to move soon, so you will be doing her a favor!
'Til next time,

-Christine
